RESPONSIBLE JEWELLERY COUNCIL

Edward is responsible for the strategic direction of RJC’s business development team which aims to raise awareness, profile and membership of the council. He trained as a gemmologist and has worked in the gem and jewellery industry since 1993.

His background is international and eclectic but has always been focused on knowledge, ethics and integrity within the gem and jewellery industry.

Africa, studied in UK and moved to Hong Kong in 1991 following University. His first entered the gem and jewellery industry by helping launch a Hong-Kong based start-up jewellery trade magazine. After meeting GIA executives he studied gemmology in the mid-90s with GIA in California, then accepted a position as Instructor at GIA back in Hong Kong.

In 1999 he left to run his own jewellery appraisal and gemmological lab business.

In 2002 he accepted the challenge to move to London to establish GIA’s presence in UK, and then to expand it into Europe.

In Nov 2017 he accepted a newly created role as Director Business Development at RJC.
