Graduated Psychologist from Universidad de los Andes with a Master’s degree in Strategic Thinking from Universidad Externado De Colombia, Gabriel was the President of the Colombian Emerald Exporters Association for 9 years. During his tenure, he organized the First International Emerald Symposium in 2015. As the leader of the association he managed to consolidate the presence of Colombian companies in international fairs, he served on the Board of Directors of the CDTEC and currently serves on the Board the International Colored-Gemstones Association (ICA). He has actively participated in meetings of the GILC where he has been a speaker, as well as a speaker in past ICA’s Congress.
His experience in the emerald industry goes back more than 15 years. He has worked in mining projects and in national and international marketing of Emeralds. He recently assumed the direction of the Center for Research and Development of Colombian Emerald (CDTEC). He has written articles for magazines such as INCOLOR and Esmeralda magazine of national circulation.
Holder of a Doctorate in Mineralogy and Geology from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan.
Currently the Chief Researcher at China’s National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC), having previously worked as a research scientist and scientific advisor at AIGS, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the National University of Singapore and China’s National Gems & Jewelry Technology Administrative Centre.

Mr. Baquero has a BA degree in Business Administration and has a diploma in International Business. He is second generation within the emerald trade in Colombia, since 2006 he has been working for the Colombian Emerald Industry first he served in Emerald Exporters association ACODES as president afterwards he was designated as the president of the Colombian Emerald Federation.
As Fedesmeraldas president he has led important projects aimed to improve the quality living conditions of the communities living in the areas around the emerald mines. He has also worked closely with the Colombian government trying to bring transparency to the emerald trade within the country and help the local brokers by promoting the Colombian emeralds in several local fashion and jewelry fairs.
He is also a Board Member for the CDTEC were his contributions has help the participation of this organization in international trade fairs.
Carlos Andrés Amaya Rodríguez (Socha, Boyacá Colombia 17 de septiembre 1984) es un político colombiano, gobernador de Boyacá para el periodo 2016-2019. Su carrera política la ha fundamentado en la defensa de la educación publica en Colombia. Ha sido representante estudiantil de diversos estamentos fue representante ante el Consejo de Facultad y el Consejo Superior de la Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, UPTC elegido como representante a la Cámara, por el departamento de Boyacá, en las elecciones legislativas realizados el 14 de marzo de 2010, como integrante de la Alianza Verde. Con 25 años se convirtió en el representante a la cámara más joven del país, en ocupar esa curul (25 años es la edad mínima para ejercer este cargo en Colombia).
Pramod Agarwal has more than 30 years of experience in the gem and jewellery industry. He has worked as a Member of the Committee of Administration in the GJEPC for many years and was Regional Chairman of GJEPC –Rajasthan Region before his election as Chairman at the national level. And He has been elected as the Chairman of India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) from 2018 to 2020.
He is Co-Founder of Token Partner and a speaker and promoter of blockchain technology and the responsible use of internet. He is the co-director of the Blockchain Research Group at UxTIC (university network to foster research in information and communications technology). He is specialist and researcher with broad experience and knowledge about management and development of ICT projects.
He is involved in several other projects, such as enREDo and Bibliotic, among others. He is graduated of Applied Mathematics and Social Science from Sorbonne University.

TEMA DE LA PRESENTACIÓN
“La Comisión Colombiana de Recursos y Reservas Minerales (CCRR) y su impacto en el sector Minero del país”.
Introducción
La CCRR es una organización colombiana privada sin ánimo de lucro, creada bajo el auspicio de CRIRSCO, la ANM y el BID. Su principal objetivo es la implementación de buenas prácticas para la estimación de Recursos y Reservas Minerales, lo cual generará confianza entre los inversionistas nacionales y extranjeros. La resolución 299 de junio 13 de 2018 expedida por la ANM, demanda de la industria minera nacional, presentar los POT basados en el lenguaje del Estándar Colombiano de Recursos y Reservas Minerales (ECRR), aunque acepta otros estándares aceptados por CRIRSCO.
Tal como ha sucedido a nivel global, la aplicación del estándar CRIRSCO ha traído grandes beneficios a las industrias mineras de los países donde se aplica. En el evento anual de Londres, septiembre 17-19, 2018, se indicó que el 80% de todas las inversiones mieras del mundo están bajo el concepto CRIRSCO. No cabe entonces la más mínima duda, que la Industria mineral nacional y entre ellas la esmeraldera, saldrán altamente beneficiadas con la aplicación del ECRR y el registro de nuevas Personas Competentes Colombianas.

An MBA (Marketing), Richa has spent the last 20 years building the largest B2B marketing company in the field of aviation, and luxury travel with a team of 250 full-time professionals across 14 offices in South Asia. A connoisseur of jewelled art, Richa started curating and executing educational visits to gemstone mines, manufacturing hubs, designer studios, and museums in 2013. The objective; to learn and become a more discerning collector, and share her knowledge with others like her.
Laterally, she began researching jewelry design history, enrolled in the GIA education program, and passionately started documenting her experiences on Instagram. In the last one year, her following has grown from 50 to 7,000+. Purely organic, content driven growth.
Her storytelling on social media garnered interest, support, and engagement with key leaders and organizations in the sector, and resulted in numerous articles in publications like the Robb Report, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Solitaire International. Recently, the prestigious Art Science Museum, Singapore, engaged her services for curation and execution of a special theme-based project on the history of gemstones and their cultural references.
Further, she is frequently invited by the Young President’s Organization (YPO) and other private investor groups, to deliver talks on the subject with a view to share her knowledge and experiences, thereby empowering buyers to ask the right questions and feel more confident in their purchases.
Richa travels extensively, splitting her time between her home and family in Singapore, her gemology travels, and her business interests in the region.

It has also been the chosen gem to adorn some of the most iconic and powerful individuals of the 20th century. We will discover the stories and the journeys that lie behind some extraordinary emeralds which have been lost and found, hidden and revealed in some of the world’s most iconic jewels.

JOANNA HARDY F.G.A BIOGRAPHY
Joanna Hardy is an independent fine jewellery specialist with over 35 years experience working in the jewellery industry. She began her career training as a goldsmith at Sir John Cass College before working as a rough diamond grader for De Beers. She then became a polished diamond dealer in Antwerp and then joined Philips the Auctioneers in London. She moved on to Sotheby’s and was their senior jewellery specialist and auctioneer for fourteen years and since 2009 has worked independently.
Joanna lectures and writes articles for publications worldwide and is a published author with her books, ‘Collect Contemporary Jewelry’, ‘Emerald’, ‘Ruby’, published by Thames and Hudson and a contributing author to ‘Graff’ published by Rizzoli and ‘Cartier Panthère published by Assouline. She curates contemporary jewellery exhibitions and has recently launched her Online Fine Jewellery School. Joanna is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association, Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts, a Liveryman and Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths as well as being a regular jewellery specialist on the television series BBC Antiques Roadshow.
Clement Sabbagh is a Business Graduate, GIA Gemologist and director of Ben Sabbagh Bros, second generation in mining, cutting and supplying quality colored gems worldwide. Shortly after engaging in the family gemstone business he lived in Israel for 3 years and became a specialist in emerald cutting. After 10 years of dedication in the board of directors, he was unanimously chosen in 2017 to be the president of ICA – International Colored Gemstones Association which is the only worldwide body specifically created to promote and benefit the global colored gemstone industry.

Jean Claude Michelou, is a gems and jewelry resource strategists.
He has been active in gemstone trading, mining , cutting and export since 1977 as well as rough colored gemstones sourcing strategist from different origins. He has served 8 years as Vice president of his 16 years on the Board of Director of the International Colored Gemstone Association , ICA. More recently he has been active as a consultant for the USAID, the World Bank, Government agencies and Mining companies and has worked in different countries on the development of infrastructures and policies from mine to market for the gemstone industry. He has been working on the development of Fair and Ethical Trade and Mining Standards and Social responsibilities initiatives for Artisanal and Small Scale mining communities. He is an Advising Director to the ICA Board , heading the Compliance and Sustainibility committee .
He is ICA Chairman of the Ambassadors and Communication committees as well as the Editor-in-Chief of colored Gemstone International Publication, InColor magazine. Jc Michelou served as Senior Technical Advisor for the UNICRI (UN) on the Gems and Jewelry Supply chain for the project “Illicit Trafficking of Precious Metals and Traceability and Ethical Origins of Colored Gemstones”. He is also on the Board of Advisor of the Gemstones and Sustainable Development Knowledge Hub as well as an active contributor to the OECD forums on precious metal and gemstones.
Laurent holds a Masters in Earth Sciences from Basel University and completed his FGA Diploma in 2008.
He has been working for the Swiss Gemmological Institute SSEF since 2010, focusing on a variety of gemstone and pearl research projects.
He holds a PhD from Basel University that focused on pearl farming sustainability and traceability, and his research continues to focus on these two themes within gemstones and pearls. Laurent is a lecturer for Gemmology at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) in Switzerland. He is a founder of the Sustainable Pearls initiative and is a contributing researcher to the Gemstone & Sustainable Development Knowledge Hub based at the University of Delaware.
Laurent has widely traveled to gemstone mines and pearl farms worldwide, having spent prolonged periods of time in Sierra Leone, Madagascar and the Pacific.
His research has been published in major gemmological journals.
Luca Maiotti is a Policy Analyst in the Responsible Business Conduct Unit at the OECD, where he is working on results measurement in mineral-producing countries and engaging in policy advice, training programmes and outreach activities in Latin America, West Africa and Central Africa. Previously, he worked in development cooperation on illicit financial flows and in three different research centres on water, migration and security in the Mediterranean. Luca holds a Master’s degree in International Security from Sciences Po Paris, with a focus on Fragility and Development.

With over 10 years of experience in the retail, wholesale and manufacturing of jewellery and gemstones, Edward has a strong background in ethical gemstone and precious metal supply chains, sustainability and impact measurement.
His focus at Everledger is the implementation of coloured gemstone and precious metal traceability and sustainability initiatives. He also leads Everledger’s collaboration with global NGOs, to explore how emerging technologies can create a better future for all those that are challenged by poverty and marginalisation, by facilitating risk management, impact measurement, inclusion and compliance.
His work is helping enable more connected, sustainable and transparent supply chains, so companies can stay ahead of the evolving compliance landscape – while bringing prosperity to the heart of communities, expose exploitation and contribute towards a more sustainable planet.
One area Everledger is exploring is tracking the lifetime journey of an asset to help tell the stories of the communities behind its sourcing and processing. The aim is to shine a light on these stories to increase and protect the value of the end-product to deliver higher margins that can be reinvested into local social and environmental projects.

Abstract: The notion of responsible sourcing has evolved rapidly in recent years, and now underpins consumer demand in many industries. Efforts to affect change in the coloured gemstone industry face the challenges of disparate, complex and artisanal & small-scale value chains, yet the demand for transparency and traceability will only continue to grow. Emerging technologies such as distributed ledgers and a plethora of internet-enabled traceability systems have already demonstrated their ability to transform the way we manage chain-of-custody, share the story of provenance with consumers, and efficiently manage due diligence and compliance. How do we create an environment that is inclusive to all, mitigates risk, stimulates investment, while increasing margins and sharing value? How do we reassure consumers in the cachet of owning an emerald that its value is protected and prove provenance from a mine that does not exploit its workers or damage the environment?
Sourcing coloured gemstones responsibly: challenges and opportunities for creating sustainable value together*
Within the LIFE 2020 Targets, LVMH has set an ambitious strategy for the supply chains used by its Maisons: LVMH Maisons ensure that the most advanced environmental standards are used all along their supply chain, reaching 70% by 2020 and 100% by 2025. Raw materials to focus on have been prioritized according to their volumes, environmental and social impact, and image risk. Since 2015, LVMH has implemented efforts to participate to the improvement of transparent and sustainable practices in the coloured gemstones supply chain. This ambition has been reinforced by the position of the Group Executive Committee to source from responsible coloured gemstones supply chains. Yet, despite these efforts, we ascertain humbly that we are still at a modest level of advancement, and witness that this is linked to the level of complexity of the supply chain, and the importance to change cultures and beliefs. There are potentially as many coloured gemstones as there are deposits: each stone has a specific supply chain where practices and potential social and environmental risks differ. No unique solution exists, but a multiple number of solutions do, and need to be identified via a better understanding of each different actor’s activity, size and culture. Change cannot be made overnight, but can only operate step by step, by collaborating hands in hands with all the actors of the industry. LVMH’s brands do not own any mining industry or polishing or cutting factory. LVMH brands design and imagine creations for art, for customers, for culture. Yet, all actors in the supply chain, from mining to final customer wish to create products that have not harmed any child, not financed any war, not contaminated any river nor deforested any tree. And even further, that it supports people’s livelihoods, develops economic and cultural interchange and educates people to take care of their rivers and trees. This is the notion of extended responsibility. A wealthy woman buying herself a splendid Dior creation feels as much responsible for the impact of mining a pit as the miner itself. This is a wonderful occasion to share efforts and work together – and not against each other – towards making this world a better place to live.

The importance of an Appellation of Origin for Colombian Emeralds: A strategy to protect and promote this special gem. The appellation of origin is a protective mechanism against infractions of origin and any misuse of the good name and reputation of this precious Colombian gem. It is also a promotional tool that can be deployed nationally and internationally to add value to emeralds and drive sales through the revitalization of existing and opening of new markets, as well as galvanising comlementary industries such as tourism and the Orange Economy.
Business administrator with post-graduate qualificiations in Strategic Management and Strategic Thinking & Perspectives, who has over 15 years’ experience working across the public and private sectors in areas including promotion, internationalization, tourism and intellectual property. He is currently co-founder and CEO of the EGREGOR Consulting Group, whose work focuses on Country Promotion & Intellectual Property, Tourism & the Orange Economy and Destination Marketing. He has previously worked as Director of Internationalization and Deputy Director of Tourism in Bogotá’s Mayor’s Office and as a consultant to a number of different private and public sector organizations including the Ministry of Environment & Sustainable Development, the National Agency for Environmental Permits (ANLA), Bogotá’s Housing & Planning Departments, the National Federation for Palm Oil Producers (FEDEPALMA) and the Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) among others.

Elena Basaglia has over 15 years’ experience in the jewellery industry, beginning her career in jewellery retail first in Milan and subsequently in London. Elena studied at the L.A.C. Art College in Milan, where she wrote a dissertation on jewellery in the Art Deco period. Elena studied at the Gemological Institute of America in New York, where she graduated with a Graduate Gemologist Diploma in 2006. Elena’s considerable experience in the jewellery industry was accumulated whilst working for some of the world’s most recognisable international jewellery brands, including Fabergé, which she joined in 2011 as the manager of the Harrods concession.
In 2014, Elena moved from Fabergé to Gemfields to become Sales Manager for Europe and UK, leveraging her knowledge of the gemstone field, her passion for gemmology and her valuable connections within the luxury world. Elena is currently Manager of Gemfields’ Downstream, providing specialist knowledge and support to various departments within Gemfields Group, and to the wider coloured gemstone industry.
In her present role of Manager of Gemfields Downstream, Elena actively follows the path of Gemfields’ cut & polished gemstones, from dealers to clients, whilst also liaising with the key entities of the gemstone trade, such as auction houses, museums, and laboratories, etc.
More recently Algy has been heavily engaged in bringing the Ethiopian exploration project into bulk sampling phase, and following the recent evacuation of the project due to civil commotion, has been coordinating Gemfields’ efforts to re-enter the license area and resume operations. Algy has become increasingly involved in Gemfields’ activities in Madagascar.
Algy has an MSc in Strategic Management from Cass Business School in London, and a Foundation in Gemmology from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. Algy is a keen travel photographer, musician and sportsman.
As Chief Executive Officer of the American Gem Trade Association, Mr. Hucker represents the premier Association of United States and Canadian colored gemstone and cultured pearl professionals. He spent eight years at GIA, first as an instructor of diamond grading and gemstone identification, and then as Manager of the Institute’s Extension Division, where he was responsible for gemology classes taught to jewelers in major cities throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Hucker specialized in importing fine gemstones into the United States. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Gem Trade Association, the American Gem Society, was Director of Marketing for Krementz Gemstones, one of the oldest jewelry manufacturing firms in the United States, and was President and partner of The Registry Ltd., a firm specializing in antique and estate jewelry.
He is a Graduate Gemologist of the GIA, a Certified Gemologist Appraiser of the American Gem Society, and a member of the American Society of Jewelry Historians.

The Rock Creek Sapphire mine produces a magnificent variety of fine pastel coloured sapphires of all sizes from 0.25 carat to 60 carats.
He is the founding director of Ontario-based Algonquian Diamond Counsellors International (ADCi) a rough diamond valuation and consulting firm that is currently under contract to the Quebec Government and also, through their partner, involved in five African Government Diamond Valuation (GDV) contracts in Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Guinea, Liberia, and Angola.
He is currently on the Board of Directors for the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) an international trade organization whose raison d’être is the promotion of coloured gemstones on the global markets. ICA members include miners, traders, and dealers in coloured gemstones from around the world.
He is currently the Senior Gemmological Associate with Watts, Griffis, McOuat Limited whom are Canada’s longest running independent firms of geological and mining consultants. Jean-Pierre Chalain is gemologist and specialist of diamond. Hi got his DUG diploma in 1992, and then joined the SSEF (Basel, Switzerland) where hi is now Head of Diamond department. He shares his time between expertise, research, teaching, and relations between labs and market (CIBJO, LMHC, etc.). He is involved in research on diamond conducted at Nantes (black diamond, asteriated diamonds, HPHT-treated diamond) and often provides samples for research.
Gagan Choudhary is the Deputy Director at the Gem Testing Laboratory, Jaipur. Mr. Choudhary has a Masters’ Diploma in Gem Identification from Gem Testing Laboratory, Jaipur, India, Diploma in Gemmology from Gem-A, and has completed Scientific Gemmology Course from SSEF, Basel. He is currently the in-charge of certification and research activities of the laboratory. Author of the two books, ‘Understanding Rough Gemstones’ and ‘Gems & Rocks’ (in Hindi), Mr. Choudhary has also authored and co-authored well over 100 articles on gems and gemology, which have appeared in various gemmological journals around the World. He has also authored his website, www.gem-passion.com, where numerous reports on interesting gem materials and other gem-related articles have been shared. He is also an editor of the Gem News International section of GIA’s Gems & Gemology journal.
Shane McClure, recently named the global director of colored stone services. In the 37 years since he joined GIA, McClure has become an internationally recognized authority in the field of gem identification.
A native Californian, McClure began his career at the Institute as a staff gemologist in the downtown Los Angeles laboratory shortly after earning his GG at the Santa Monica campus in 1978. There, he co-founded the identification services department in 1980. He rose through the ranks, supervising and then managing identification services before assuming the role of director of West Coast identification services in 1999. Among the developments that took place under his tenure was the issuance of clarity enhancement reports in natural emerald (starting in 2000), the identification of new treatments and composite techniques, and steps toward clearer nomenclature for corundum, jade, turquoise, and many other gem materials.
Over the past few decades, McClure has built a reputation as a knowledgeable speaker who lectures around the world on gemological issues. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles on topics such as the diffusion treatment of corundum, the identification of bleached and polymer-impregnated “B” jade, Zachery-treated turquoise and classifying emerald clarity enhancement. To date, he has authored 29 articles for Gems & Gemology, 15 of which have won the journal’s Most Valuable Article award. Notable G&G articles include articles fracture-filled diamonds with Robert Kammerling, identification of lead-glass-filled rubies (winner of the AGS Liddicoat Journalism Award in 2006), and gemstone enhancement and detection in both the 1990s and 2000s. He has also served as the journal’s Lab Notes editor since 1997.

Olivier Segura has a unique academic and professional background, blending diverse skills, each of which have contributed to his success in the gem and jewelry field. He holds two degrees from Paris University, an MSc in Biology and Geology and a Master’s degree in Marketing and Communications; a Graduate Gemologist (GG) certification from GIA; a DUG from Nantes University on the orange luminescence of gem corundum (2012) and field experience in various parts of the world, including extensive time in Burma, deepening his knowledge of gem markets and developing relationships with key people at important mining operations.
From 2011 to 2018, Segura was Director of the LFG (French Gemological Laboratory) based in Paris – France – and he has focused his skills on raising the professional standards of the laboratory to new heights, expanding staff, adding more sophisticated instrumentation, and managing a team of gemologists working on diamonds, colored gemstones and pearl testing. He also developed a School of gemology and welcomed many students every year. Since 2018, Segura is the scientific Director of L’ECOLE DES ARTS JOAILLIERS (school of jewelry arts) supported by Van Cleef & Arpels where he develops courses, lectures and exhibitions related to gems and gemology. The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has announced the appointment of Alan Hart FGA DGA as the Association’s new CEO.
A former member of the Gem-A Council, Hart is currently Head of Earth Sciences Collections at the Natural History Museum, London. With a wealth of experience in the gem and mineral trade, Hart started his career at the Natural History Museum in 1981 as Assistant Minerals Scientific Officer, progressing to his current position of Principal Curator of Gems and Minerals and Head of Earth Sciences Collections in 2012. Hart is Chair of the Museum’s Collections Committee and serves on various science executive boards, providing strategic and operational goals to improve standards, best practices and operational efficiencies.
Of his appointment, Hart said: “I am truly excited at the prospect of being the CEO at Gem-A. Having been associated with Gem-A for many years and having worked alongside many of the staff and the Trustees, I am fortunate in knowing that they are as passionate about their work as I am. DANAT – Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones
With the influence of auction houses on the colored gemstone industry, origin determination of gemstones such as emeralds, rubies or sapphires has become a major concern for the industry (consumers, dealers and gem labs alike). In order to be able to provide origin determination services, gem labs need to acquire reference samples from all the known deposits and learn more about them. For that reason, the “Bahrain Institute for pearls and Gemstones (DANAT)”, a new gem lab established in Bahrain, contracted Vincent Pardieu to visit emerald producing areas around the world in order to build their reference collection. One of the first area he visited on that purpose was the emerald producing area near Mananjary in Madagascar. The presentation by Vincent Pardieu will show the benefits labs can get from field expeditions and present the Mananjary emerald deposit.

Lee Groat graduated from Queen’s University with a B.Sc. (Honours, Geology) in 1982 and from the University of Manitoba with a Ph.D. in 1988. From 1988 to 1989 he was a NATO Postdoctoral Fellow at Cambridge University.
Professor Groat has been a faculty member at the University of British Columbia since 1989 and a Full Professor since 2003. His main research interests are the geology of gem deposits, pegmatites, the crystal chemistry of minerals, and economic geology, and many of his projects have entailed fieldwork in remote parts of Canada and other countries. Professor Groat has published approximately 150 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
From 2001 to 2006 Dr. Groat was Editor of American Mineralogist. He is the former Co-Editor (2012) and present Editor (2013-present) of The Canadian Mineralogist.
In 2003 Dr. Groat was elected a Fellow of the Mineralogical Society of America, and in 2009 the new mineral groatite, NaCaMn2+2(PO4)[PO3(OH)]2, was named in his honor.
Professor Groat is an Independent Director of multiple companies in the exploration and technology spheres and a partner in a private consulting company. He is registered as a Professional Geoscientist in the province of British Columbia.

Gaston Giuliani was born on 24th January 1954 in France. He studied geology at the University of Nancy from 1973 until 1982 when he obtained his PhD. In 1985 he reached the position of senior researcher at the Institute of Research for Development (IRD) in Paris and subsequently became the director of research at the same institute in 1999, a position he still holds to this day. During his time as a senior researcher Gaston completed his thesis on Habilitation to Manage Research in 1997. He is also a member of the Geosciences Environment in Toulouse unit and the “Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques” in Nancy.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem is the Executive Chairman of DMCC and has driven its growth from a start-up of 28 member companies in 2003 to the world’s leading free zone in 2018 with over 15,000 member companies from 170 countries, employing over 60,000 people.
Tasked with enhancing commodity trade flows through Dubai, DMCC has introduced to market a number of value-added products and services under Mr Bin Sulayem’s leadership. In 2017, DMCC was named the ‘Global Free Zone of the Year’ by The Financial Times fDi Magazine, for a record third consecutive year.
Mr Bin Sulayem oversaw the exponential growth of the DMCC Free Zone master development in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), a 200-hectare business and residential community in Dubai of over 100,000 people living and working across 68 towers. Mr Bin Sulayem also oversees the development of DMCC’s latest real estate project, and the much-anticipated Uptown Dubai district.
Mr Bin Sulayem currently serves as the Chairman of the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) and the Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX).
The Kimberley Process officially appointed the UAE as the first and only Arab country to Chair the Kimberley Process in November 2015. The UAE Ministry of Economy officially appointed Mr Bin Sulayem as the UAE’s Chair of the Kimberley Process for 2016

Shortly after engaging in the family gemstone business he lived in Israel for 3 years and became a specialist in emerald cutting. After 10 years of dedication in the board of directors, he was unanimously chosen in 2017 to be the president of ICA – International Colored Gemstones Association which is the only worldwide body specifically created to promote and benefit the global colored gemstone industry.
