Born in 1957 in Araçatuba – S. Paulo, Brazil, SERGIO MARTINS was only 14 when his uncle introduce him into the fascinating world of colored stones; he set up his gemstone exporting company at the age of 17. Sergio majored in business administration in 1980 at São Paulo Mackenzie University.
Martins became ICA member in 1991, and served as its Ambassador to Brazil from 1993 to 1997; as Congress Committee vice-chairman in 1997 when that year’s ICA Congress was held in Brazil. Also he was creator and co-host of the ICA’s Brazil Mine Tour of 2003.
Former director of IBGM the Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals. He had an active and successful 3 years term, helping the development of the Gemstones industry in Brazil.
He is currently proprietor of the International renowned Company STONE WORLD, a company dedicated to improving the already high quality cutting of EMERALDS in Brazil.
Involved in Emeralds mining project in Bahia, Goias, Itabira and Nova Era, where the process of large scale commercial production is just beginning, he is extremely concerned with ecologically correct mining, and has dedicated himself to seeing that no damage whatsoever is done to his country’s magnificent natural resources.
