Sr Algy Strutt – SPEAKERS

Gemfields

In over six years of working at Gemfields, Algy Strutt has accumulated considerable experience in starting up coloured gemstone exploration and mining projects in multiple territories, including Mozambique, Ethiopia and Colombia.
In early 2012 he was the second person to arrive on the ground at Gemfields’ Mozambican operation, Montepuez Ruby Mining, where he spent two years helping to establish what is now the world’s largest single ruby deposit, covering 33,600 hectares and employing over 1,100 people.
Upon returning to the UK, Algy joined Gemfields’ Mergers & Acquisitions team where he led the successful acquisition of Web Gemstone Mining, an Ethiopian mining company that holds a 200km2 exploration license for emeralds in southern Oromia. Following commencement of the Ethiopian exploration programme, Algy supervised the transfer of control and day-to-day management of a Colombian group of mining companies during a highly complex acquisition that involved multiple international stakeholders, 29 companies and 55 mining titles and applications.
